Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Ning, YouTube, Flickr, Wikis and Podcasts are not communities. But they are being used by our students as building blocks for constructing their own, very personal learning environments and communities. This session will draw on lessons we’ve learned about building personal learning environments and virtual communities from our research and experience with our students. And we will take one more step, and turn our attention to what we can learn from communities that are springing up all over the Web—from the sacred to the humorous.. Perhaps we can learn something interesting from them about how we can build communities that will work in our own classrooms.
